2016 LULU VIGNERON SAVAGNIN,Jura, France
Grown in the unique Jura region from parcels and historic (not genetically modified) strains. The soil is quite unique, with two marly layers and a calcareous stratus, which is rich in fossilised oysters. Ludwig takes the best clusters during selections, and uses extensive pruning techniques by hand to avoid packing down the soil with heavy machinery. Nose on quince, apricot, honey, citrus, pear. Elegant and mineral on mouth with crisp acidity and spectacular finish with quince jam, cake and minerality.
Ludwig Bindernagel, a Bavarian who made his way into the Jura, has a completely natural approach to his winemaking. The Jura is a small, mountainous wine growing region located between Burgundy and Switzerland in the far east of France.
Ludwig's collection of small vineyards in Etoile, Arlay, Poligny and Chateau Chalon are all managed under organic conditions. He is dedicated to nonintervention and maintains a mindset that wine should be made as they did in 'the olden days'. Everything at the winery, based in Poligny, is done by hand from beginning to end, which results in some of the best wines produced from the Jura region.
