From a 50-plus year old New England shiraz vineyard comes this whole bunch, wild fermented red wine. All killer, no filler, are the latest Jilly releases.
Shiraz by way of syrah, let’s say, but with the weight and warmth we expect from our wide, brown land. Game meat, old spice cupboard, leather and salted liquorice feature in the dark plu- black cherry fruit stuff going on. Gummy, drying tannins from go to whoa in the palate too. The wine is fragrant, teetering over medium bodied in feel but also holds fresh and lively with that tannin and a good belt of cool acidity in tow. A gravelly-minerally thing in there? Yes, also. Will please those seeking fuller expressions as it will the cool cats looking to chill a wicked, wilder expression of shiraz. Really good.
