32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Malbec, 22% Petit Verdot & 17% Cabernet Franc. There once was a wine released by Penfolds called ‘The Clare Estate’, and I always liked that wine.
So much dried rose perfume here, in with blackcurrant, plum, milk chocolate and a little mint. It’s medium-bodied, kind of light in a way, but densely packed with flavour and feels concentrated. Some tobacco and dried herb, cool acidity, pulverised rock tannin, and a long sweet red fruit and floral finish. Everything old is new again. Unforced and charming. Classic styling from yesteryear yet has a modern ‘natty’ feel.
